Why the Best Adventures Aren't Always Planned

There’s a common belief that the best holidays are the ones planned months in advance.

The ones with colour-coded itineraries, restaurant bookings, and every detail carefully thought out.

But if I'm honest, some of my favourite adventures have started with a much simpler question:

"What if we just went?"

No months of planning. No endless researching. Just a free weekend, a rough idea of where we'd like to go, and the excitement of seeing where the road takes us.

And that's exactly what I love about campervan travel.

Sometimes You Just Need A Change Of Scene

Life is busy.

Work, school runs, endless to-do lists, laundry piles, emails, and all the other things that seem to fill our weeks.

It's easy to keep saying:

"We'll book something later."

"We'll do it when things calm down."

"We'll plan something for next year."

But sometimes all you really need is a couple of nights away.

A different view from your morning coffee.

A walk somewhere new.

An evening spent watching the sunset instead of staring at your phone.

You don't always need two weeks in the sun to feel refreshed.

Sometimes a long weekend is enough.

The UK Is Made For Spontaneous Adventures

One of the things I love most about travelling by campervan is how easy it is to be spontaneous.

  • No airport queues.

  • No luggage restrictions.

  • No rushing to make a flight.

  • Just pack a bag, fill the fridge, and go.

One weekend you could find yourself exploring the Norfolk coast. The next, winding through the Yorkshire Dales or waking up beside a peaceful lake in the Lake District.

There are so many incredible places right here on our doorstep, often just a few hours away.

And somehow those last-minute adventures often become the ones you remember most.

Freedom Without Compromise

When we created Up Sticks Campers, we didn't want campervan travel to feel like a compromise.

We wanted the freedom that comes with life on the road, but with all the comforts that make a trip enjoyable.

A proper bed.

A warm, inviting space.

The ability to cook a good meal.

A comfortable place to sit with a coffee while watching the world wake up outside.

Because adventure doesn't have to mean roughing it.

In fact, we believe the best adventures happen when you're comfortable enough to slow down and enjoy them.

Wild outside. Refined inside.

It's The Little Moments You'll Remember

Best Adventures Aren't Always Planned

The funny thing is, when people come back from their trips, they rarely talk about the miles they've driven.

Instead, they tell us about:

The coffee they drank while watching the sunrise.

The beach they stumbled across by accident.

The pub they found at the end of a country lane.

The evening spent sitting outside the van as the sun disappeared behind the hills.

The unexpected moments.

The unplanned ones.

The memories that couldn't have been organised, no matter how much planning went into the trip.

Maybe This Is Your Sign

If you've been talking about getting away for a while...

If you've been waiting for the perfect time...

If you've been promising yourself a break but never quite getting around to booking one...

Maybe this is your sign.

You don't need weeks.

You don't need a complicated itinerary.

You don't even need to know exactly where you're going.

Sometimes all you need is a free weekend, an open road, and the freedom to change your mind.

Because the best adventures aren't always planned.

Sometimes they simply begin with:

"What if we just went?"

Freedom. Without compromise.

Wild outside. Refined inside.
