The Joy of Packing Less

Why taking less often leads to a better adventure.

When you're getting ready for a trip, it's easy to fall into the same routine.

"Just in case."
"I might need that."
"I'll throw this in too."

Before long, the car is full to the brim, and half of what you've packed never even leaves the bag.

One of the things we love most about campervan travel is that it quietly changes the way you think about packing.

With less space comes less clutter.

And somehow, that makes you realise you needed far less than you thought.

It's Not About Having Less

Packing less doesn't mean giving things up.

It means making room for the things that matter.

  • A cosy jumper for cool evenings.

  • Your favourite mug for that first coffee outside.

  • A good book.

  • Walking boots.

  • A blanket to wrap around your shoulders while the sun goes down.

These are the things that become part of the memories.

Your Home Travels With You

Unlike a hotel room, your campervan is always nearby.

Need another layer?

It's there.

Fancy making a cup of tea after a walk?

No problem.

Forgot lunch?

You've got a kitchen with you.

There's something incredibly comforting about knowing that wherever you stop, home has travelled with you.

The Little Things Become the Big Things

When you're travelling in a campervan, you begin to appreciate simple pleasures.

  • A quiet breakfast with the doors open.

  • Watching the kettle boil while birds sing outside.

  • Finding the perfect picnic spot without planning it.

The slower pace encourages you to notice things that everyday life often rushes past.

Pack for Moments, Not Just Miles

Instead of asking yourself,

"What if I need this?"

Try asking,

"What kind of moments do I want to create?"

  • Maybe it's sitting around a campfire with hot chocolate.

  • Watching the sunrise from the beach.

  • Cooking dinner together after a long walk.

Those are the moments worth packing for.

Leave Room for the Unexpected

One of the greatest joys of travelling is discovering something you never planned.

  • A little farm shop full of local treats.

  • A market selling handmade pottery.

  • A cosy bookshop in a seaside town.

If every cupboard is already full before you've even left home, there's nowhere to put the little treasures you find along the way.

Sometimes leaving a little space is part of the adventure.

Slow Down. Simplify. Enjoy.

At Up Sticks, we've learnt that the best campervan adventures rarely depend on how much you've packed.

  • They come from slowing down.

  • Spending more time outdoors.

  • Laughing over a simple meal.

  • Watching another sunset.

  • Taking the scenic route simply because you can.

When you pack a little less, you often come home with a lot more.

More memories.

More stories.

More moments you'll want to relive.

A Gentle Reminder - Packing less

Before your next adventure, take one last look at your bags.

Ask yourself...

"Do I really need all of this?"

You might be surprised by how little you actually need - and how much more freedom that gives you.

After all, some of life's greatest adventures begin when we carry a little less.
